An Introduction

Welcome to the 'New Yorker' Anthology. This anthology explores the idea of shaping an identity or a narrative based off of generic stereotypes and negative input sources. The four chapters explore the construction of narratives through different formats:

Chapter 1: The Secret Sauce

How to make a New Yorker. A step by step process of all of the elements you will need to combine to create the stereotypical New Yorker. Voice over notes, activated by mousing over the words, complement the recipe and add a second layer to the narrative, allowing for an inside or conscious voice to guide the perception of the narrative.

Chapter 2: What to Expect

The constant flow of this internal monologue takes the reader through common NYC experiences. Through lack of punctuation and interjection of sounds when mousing over, the reader is immersed in a subjective experience without having time to create their own image of the scenario.

Chapter 3: Terminology

In struggling to establish or come to terms with an identity, many take to quizzes in order to find ‘who they are like’ or where they belong. This quiz uses common New York language as the basis for the questions.

Chapter 4: A Letter to Myself

Begin by typing a letter to yourself. This experience was created by using a keyboard based off of transcripts of Trump’s speeches. This letter attempts to find a balance between conflicting self-identity and turning negative language into a positive narrative.

Disclaimer: This piece is heavily based on generic NYC local and tourist stereotypes and serves as a commentary on these aspects through use of sound elements and different forms of narrative story telling.
